Franklin D. Roosevelt

(1882-1945)

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York, to James Roosevelt and Sara Delano Roosevelt. He hailed from a wealthy and politically prominent family, with his father being a successful businessman and his mother coming from a wealthy and influential family.

Growing up, Roosevelt was surrounded by privilege and opportunity. However, his early life was not without challenges. His father's sudden death when he was just 18 deeply impacted him, leading him to become more introspective and serious. Despite his privileged background, Roosevelt was exposed to the social inequalities of his time, witnessing the struggles of the working class during the Gilded Age.

Roosevelt's greatest achievements came during one of the most tumultuous periods in American history. As president, he faced the dual challenges of the Great Depression and World War II. Roosevelt's New Deal policies aimed to provide relief, recovery, and reform to the nation, implementing groundbreaking programs such as Social Security and the Civilian Conservation Corps. His leadership during World War II was instrumental in guiding the nation through the conflict, rallying the American people with his famous fireside chats and forging alliances with other world leaders. Despite battling the effects of polio, which left him paralyzed from the waist down, Roosevelt's resilience and determination enabled him to lead the country with strength and compassion during these difficult times, leaving behind a legacy of hope and progress.
